Formerly the Franciscan Capuchin Sisters of Maua

The Sisters

The Sisters have their Mother House in Maua which is in Marangu Moshi, Kilimanjaro Region. They own and operate the Emmaus Health Center in Merali Village Sanya Juu, Siha District, Kilimanjaro Region. They have a small community is in the village of Sanya Station in the Hai District, Kilimanjaro Region. Another community is in Burka in Arusha and the last community is in Mivumomi, Tanga Region.

Our Mission

To give flavors to the Christian life through prayers and the way of life. by
1. Treating sick people in the villages and regions surrounding the heath center.
2. Strengthen food security for residents and staff of the proposed Safe-Haven for victims of domestic violence.
3. To generate revenue by increasing agriculture production that will support farm expenses, Emmaus Health Center care services, staff salaries and overhead, secondary and vocational school as well as the catechistical training center.
4. To use sustainable market-based growth and agricultural best practices in farming. Improve environmental and occupational health and promote environmental sustainability.

Sr. Christiana Samuel Njau

Mother Superior

Mother Superior in Kiswahili (Mama Mkuu) heads the Capuchin Nuns of the Third Order Regular of St Francis of Assis as the general overseer responsible for the Mother House and all other congregations and projects owned by the TOR Cap Nuns. She is an accountant by profession and makes all final decisions concerning the sisters, their livelihood and projects in detail.

Sr. Yolanda Francis Urasa

Assistant to the Mother Superior

A secondary teacher by profession. Together with teaching duties, Sr. Yolanda assists Mother Superior in her duties and proxy in the absence of Mother Superior. She helps Mother Superior manage both spiritual and administrative responsibilities. She helps manage schedules, correspondence and documentation. She oversees daily operations when Mother superior is absent She participates in decision-making and planning meetings and represents the convent in external engagements when delegated.

Sr. Emmanuela Burry Lorry

Councils of Advisors

Sr. Emmanuela is a Laboratory Technologist and works at the Emmaus Health Center. Performing laboratory test and ensuring the proper maintenance and calibration of equipment. She prepares samples for analysis, recording and reporting test results and maintaining quality control. She also plays a major role in maintaining records, adhering to safety procedures and collaborating with other lab personnel. She is an advisor and a council member of the TOR Cap Nuns and is in charge of the Emmaus community/congregations. Overseeing all day-to-day activities and projects of the Emmaus community and reports to Mother Superior. She is an advisor to both the Mother Superior and Assistant Mother Superior.

Sr. Anaklet Ernest Kiwia

Council of Advisors

Sr Anaklet is a clinical officer. As a clinical officer she works at the St. Mary’s Minumuni dispensary diagnosing and treating illnesses, performing minor surgical procedures, participating in clinical research, and providing health education to the community. She is one of the board members and an advisor to Mother Superior as well as responsible for decision making.

Sr. Cresencia Roman Tarimo

Council Member/Advisor to Mother Superior

Sr Cresencia is an accountant and works as a school manager/accountant. Her duties encompass a broad range of responsibilities focused on the smooth and effective operation of the school. These duties generally include managing physical facilities, personnel, school-community relations, pupil welfare and financial management. She is also responsible for ensuring that the school meets legal and regulatory government requirements. She works alongside Sr. Dona. Sr Cresencia is also on Mother Superior’s advisory board responsible for making decisions.

Sr. Dona Joachim Marando (Mother Superior Emeritus)

Accountant

Sr. Dona is the accountant of the TOR Cap Nuns. As an accountant her duties encompass managing all financial transactions, preparing financial reports and ensuring compliance with relevant government regulations. She is responsible for budgeting, bookkeeping an reconciling accounts. Additionally, she is involved in auditing, tax preparation and providing financial advice to the convent leadership.

Secretary

Sr Restituta is the secretary of the Cap Nuns. She has strong organizational skills, professional communication skills and provides essential administrative and clerical supports to the Cap Nuns.
